Common Questions

Who is eligible?

Patients who are eligible for an AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) may participate in TAP.

Financial and medical eligibility for ADAP enrollment is determined at the state level and varies among states. Medical eligibility is often defined as a positive HIV diagnosis. Financial eligibility is usually determined as a percentage of the Federal Poverty Level. Consult with the ADAP in your state if you have specific questions about eligibility criteria.

Any designated office staff member with knowledge of current ADAP status can certify patient eligibility by signing and dating the CERTIFICATE.

How does the program work?
  • A completed CERTIFICATE and a test requisition form are required for each qualifying patient
  • Sample collection may occur in a healthcare professional’s clinic, in any other participating laboratory, or in any collection site (view sample handling instructions)
  • The completed CERTIFICATE, along with a test requisition form, is given to the phlebotomist at the time the sample is taken
  • The patient sample, completed CERTIFICATE, and test requisition form for Trofile®, Trofile® DNA, or Trofile® Select are sent to Monogram Biosciences®, a Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings. The patient sample, completed CERTIFICATE, and test requisition form for Quest Diagnostics® HIV-1 Coreceptor Tropism, Ultradeep Sequencing (UDS) are sent to Quest Diagnostics®
  • Test results are delivered directly to the requesting healthcare professional (or to a third-party laboratory for distribution to the requesting healthcare professional, when applicable)
  • Monogram Biosciences or Quest Diagnostics will perform the test and invoice ViiV Healthcare directly
  • For TAP-qualified patients for whom a valid CERTIFICATE is received, no bill for the assay will be submitted to, and no amount will be collected from: ADAP, the Ryan White program, any referring laboratory, any healthcare provider, or any patient
  • Trofile®, Trofile® DNA, Trofile® Select, and Quest Diagnostics® HIV-1 Coreceptor Tropism, Ultradeep Sequencing (UDS) are covered under TAP
What is the process for submitting a TAP CERTIFICATE?
  • You can order Trofile®, Trofile® DNA, Trofile® Select, or Quest Diagnostics® HIV-1 Coreceptor Tropism, Ultradeep Sequencing (UDS) alone or along with other laboratory tests using your standard method
  • The CERTIFICATE is not a test requisition form; the purpose of the CERTIFICATE is to facilitate accurate tracking, invoicing, and payment for Trofile®, Trofile® DNA, Trofile® Select, or Quest Diagnostics® HIV-1 Coreceptor Tropism, Ultradeep Sequencing (UDS) by ViiV Healthcare
  • All sections of the CERTIFICATE must be completed for proper processing
  • Each CERTIFICATE contains a unique identifier code, so only original copies may be submitted
  • Each CERTIFICATE contains 3 copies: a sample copy (must accompany the patient sample submission), a healthcare professional copy, and a patient copy (to be retained for record-keeping)
  • A CERTIFICATE must accompany the sample; not including a CERTIFICATE with the sample may delay results
