HIV-1 coreceptor tropism assay
For patients with viral loads of ≥1000 copies/mL

Cell-based assay that determines the coreceptor tropism of a patient’s HIV-1 strain when the patient's viral load is ≥1000 copies/mL

Indicates whether a patient has a virus that is:

  • CCR5-tropic
  • CXCR4-tropic
  • D/M-tropic

Phenotypic viral RNA analysis

Able to detect D/M or CXCR4 minor variants when present in ≥0.3% of the total viral population

Turnaround time: Approximately 14 days; may vary depending on sample routing

Sample of Trofile® tropotype testing results from Monogram Biosciences
Verify viral load ≥1000 copies/mL before ordering the test.
Using 2 PPT or 2 EDTA (lavender-top) tubes, draw enough whole blood to provide at least 3 mL plasma.
Centrifuge immediately. Spin sample at 1000 to 1200 g for 10 to 15 minutes. (Don’t leave samples in centrifuge after spinning.) If using EDTA tubes, transfer plasma to a plastic screw-cap tube.
Place tube(s), test requisition form, and completed CERTIFICATE in specimen bag.
Freeze immediately (-20°C) and ensure sample is frozen before shipping on dry ice.
